I’m not sure how many of my followers/readers are familiar with Japanese music so I’ll make this as quick as possible. I’m not a proper Gackt fan but I’ll try to do the man some justice with my short introduction. 

Gackt (pronounced Gakuto or Gak-to) is one of the more colourful artist in Japanese music industry. ‘Artist’ is really a word that describes him because creating art is what he truly does. He composes, he sing, he acts (screen, theater), he writes, he designs his jewellery line and kimonos…I can’t even begin to describe how talented this guy is.

He was the ex-vocalist of a Japanese rock visual kei band Malice Mizer. A band I didn’t appreciate, I didn’t like MM one bit. This dislike was made complicated because I actually liked the voice that was singing. If only it was not set to MM’s music! After a few years, he was ‘relieved’ from MM and went solo, and his first single still sounded a bit MM so I thought why waste my time, right? Then he came out with ‘Vanilla’ and I sang along to it. Countless times. In the shower. In bed. While I put clothes on. While I put makeup on. You get the picture. And I love his blings.

I’m still not a proper fan of Gackt. There are more of his songs that I’m not wild about than the ones that I do like. But when I like a Gackt song it’s like a treasure, the combination of me actually liking it and Gackt’s voice singing it makes it highly valuable TO ME.

This song is the song of his that I sing most. It’s the constant noise on the background whenever I’m creating; scrapbooking, writing, redecorating, new recipe…as long as I’m creating something new this song plays on the background.
