Steampunk-ish World Map, Cartographilia #1

Setting up context:

1. I’m a cartographilia: I love maps (and consequently cartography art).
2. I’m a closet steampunk.

So this piece right here, by Diego Patino for AmericanFlat is right up my alley. Unfortunately, AmericanFlat does not ship internationally, and I missed the sale from Dalani.

Alright, so it’s not really steampunk. In fact, this piece is titled Night of the Long Grass, which is nothing remotely steampunk. Though when you look at it, there are no sightings of Long Grass either, so maybe the artist had a night of long grass, if you catch my drift. :)

How it came about:

A few years ago, Americanflat Founder and President, Giorgio Piccoli, moved to New York City to begin work with JPMorgan. In an attempt to decorate the walls of his tiny apartment with artwork, he was led down a path of frustration and disappointment. “I would see a great piece of large art that I wanted to purchase and the gallerist would tell me that it was north of $5,000,” says Piccoli. “I would ask if there was anything closer to my price range and they would just laugh. Right then, I knew I wanted to create a brand that was not for the art investor but for the art lover.”
